Coming October 2019, Fantagraphics Books is excited to announce the release of two stunning additions to our Studio Edition series: Daniel Clowes: The Fantagraphics Studio Edition and Ed Piskor: The Fantagraphics Studio Edition. The Fantagraphics Studio Edition series illuminates the compelling, painstaking process by which great comics are created. Each deluxe, oversized volume collects over 100 pages of high resolution, un-retouched original art scans, capturing subtle nuances of the artist’s skillful brush strokes and pen lines. These full-size reproductions retain original pencil marks, corrections, and marginalia—fascinating imperfections that provide insights into the creative process of these master cartoonists. This is truly the closest most…

Remembering Ted Stearn
Today we mourn the loss of Ted Stearn, a beloved member of the Fantagraphics family. Ted’s unique sense of humor and biting wit will never be forgotten. An accomplished cartoonist, animator, and artist, he brought laughter to all who knew him either personally or through his art. A note from our Associate Publisher, Eric Reynolds: “In addition to working with him for over 20 years, my wife and I considered Ted a genuine friend. He was wonderfully prickly, often morose, but always in a way that was laden with a whipsmart, deadpan sense of humor. I loved talking comics and…
What’s in Store: Jack Kamen’s Lasting Legacy
Jack Kamen’s classic stories in EC comics like Tales From the Crypt, Weird Science, Haunt of Fear, Modern Love, and Weird Fantasy left a lasting impression on midcentury American youth. They sold in the millions, but were vilified by child psychologists, preachers and politicians, who claimed these comic books were the cause of juvenile delinquency, leading to their ultimate demise. Kamen’s legacy has been preserved in the EC Artists’ Library from Fantagraphics Books with four collections: Zero Hour, Forty Whacks, Daddy Lost His Head, and Martian Monster. An exhibition of Kamen’s comics hosted by series editor J. Michael Catron opens…
