What’s in Store: Best Comix of 2019

It’s come the time that Fantagraphics Bookstore curator Larry Reid selects his favorite comix of the year. If this list seems somehow less cohesive than in the past, it’s testament to the creative and cultural diversity in current contemporary comix. That’s a good thing. These wonderful books, and many more amazing new titles that I absentmindedly overlooked here, can be found at Fantagraphics Bookstore & Gallery, located at 1201 S. Vale Street in the heart of Seattle’s historic Georgetown arts community. Open daily 11:30 to 8:00 PM, Sundays until 5:00 PM. Phone 206-557-4910. 20. Book of Weirdo. This oral history…

What’s in Store: Top Comix of 2017

It’s come time for Fantagraphics Bookstore & Gallery curator Larry Reid to name my choices for the best comix of the past year. This list is customarily limited to the top 10 publications plus a handful of honorable mentions. This being a banner year for contemporary comix, I’ve expanded my subjective selections to an even dozen, together with an equal number of alternatives – any one of which could be included among the best.    12. Chris Ware: Monograph This comprehensive collection of Ware’s art, comix, and ephemera does justice to the remarkable career of one of the most innovative…

Look at ALL these digital releases!

If you like reading comics on your tablet, today is a big day. We’ve got books by the late, great Jack Davis, modern classics by Dame Darcy and Dash Shaw, and new collections and graphic novels from Spain and Argentina. The Living Mummy and Other Stories collects Jack Davis at his most eye-poppingly terrifying and gleefully gruesome. These vintage EC stories feature everything a horror fan could ask for — vampires, ghouls, revenge — all leavened with the pun-laced humor of scripter Al Feldstein and illuminated by the virtuoso brushwork of Davis himself.
