The South Gets a New Festival

Austin, Texas is getting a upgrade this year with the inception of New South Festival of Literary Arts and Cartooning. Here’s why you should put it on your calendar for June 6th.

From their founders:

New South Fest is an outdoor books and comics event to be held on June 6th, 2015 at the French Legation Museum in Austin, Texas. It will be FREE & OPEN TO THE PUBLIC.

New South will feature a book fair (with over 50 exhibitors) and cross-disciplinary panels. Our goal is to celebrate independent literature, alternative comics, small presses, and print culture. It will be highly curated, focused, fresh, and irreverent.

Among those attending as a special guest will be Josh Simmons! He’ll be tabling with copies of Black River, freshly minted prints, and other books all day. Joining Josh are other special guests: Jim Rugg, Helen Jo, Jonny Negron, and many many others.

If you’re down south, we highly recommend checking out this one day show and catching up with your favorite alternative comic artists and illustrators. If you’re looking for more comics in your life, there are also some great satellite events happening after the festival.

To kick off the weekend, there’ll be a signing at Austin Books and Comics with Josh Simmons beginning at 5 PM.

There’ll also a be a pre-party kicking off at 7 PM with art, music, and drinking! Get more details on facebook.
