Curse of the Dark Knight.

A comics-related post on the topic of curses over at Cryptomundo. Is The Dark Knight cursed? The argument isn't that strong (yet) but it's worth reading this brief rundown. I'm going to spoil Loren Coleman's final word by sharing it here, as it perfectly summarizes my own interest in BEASTS! : "From Batman to Mothman, whether or not there are curses is not important. The fact that they have become part of popular culture and that there is a dark sense that there may be such things in the modern world, in the end, may be what becomes more significant."…

Ditch Your SBC Global Email Account.

Just a Public Service Announcement, here, but I recommend you ditch your SBC Global email account if you have one. Long story, but there's a good chance that (for weeks now) you're not getting email from some people. People like me. Even if I've written you many times before. And should you mention this to SBC they'll give you the runaround that it's being fixed. But it's not.  And in some cases I have no other way to reach you so I'm getting very frustrated that SBC are such A*holes because I'm not going to attempt to figure out all…

The Complete Fletcher Hanks

Tom Spurgeon at Comics Reporter has the scoop on our forth-coming collection which will, according to expert/editor Paul Karasik, compile the last of all the stories Fletcher Hanks ever did. Check the CR site on Monday for all the details.  Meanwhile, congratulations Paul Karasik for the Eisner win for Best Archival Collection with the first book of Hanks' work!

Talking Con.

The 25th Anniversary of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles kicks off at San Diego Comic Con this year. I think I was 10 when I first read the Turtles comic and eleven when I saved up all my babysitting money and allowance to buy the limited edition, signed hardcover collection of the first fifteen (or so) stories for an astounding $100. (Probably the most expensive non-utilitarian thing I bought before I was 18 and the only thing I ever ordered out of the back of a comic book.)   I don't know what this passport thing is about but if…

The Sound of Vikingless Whips Cracking.

I knew we seemed swamped here lately in our small art department but I was surprised to get this email from Kim Thompson just now: "This leaves us with the following most impressive roster of 30 (!) books and comics in production or on a boat." "On a boat" means it's being shipped to us by the overseas printers. That's just through September…

Seeking: Product Photographer Who Loves Comics.

For years I've longed to use photographs of our books in marketing material instead of the usual flat, digital design files. But, as many Fantagraphics fans know, we run a low-budget ship around here so we can't afford to hire anyone to do this. However, if there are any generous souls out there who are set up to do product shots of books we'd love to work with you in trade. You shoot a book, you keep the book. If any Flog readers know a photographer who might be game, please consider passing this posting on to them. This would…

Jordan Crane Talks.

He talks and rants and rails and educates. That's standard fare for even a three minute phone conversation with the always interesting and crazy talented Jordan Crane. This is another of the I Can Has Comix interviews salvaged from the defunct Wizard Universe site but well worth revisiting: READ IT!
