Our friend Marc Maron is in the news this week after his provocative WTF podcast with Barack Obama. (Note the copy of Zap #1 on the bulletin board above the President’s head.) Check out Maron’s equally entertaining interview with Peter Bagge conducted at Fantagraphics Bookstore & Gallery for an early WTF podcast in 2010. It’s nice to see subversive artists advancing America’s agenda.
Speaking of subversive artists…Don’t miss your chance to meet one of the country’s most innovative and outspoken graphic designers. Art Chantry will appear on Saturday, July 11 from 6:00 to 9:00 PM for the global debut of Art Chantry Speaks: A Heretic’s History of 20th Century Graphic Design. The book examines anachronistic design techniques from the not-so-distant past and how these methods informed his idiosyncratic aesthetic. It’s really fascinating. We’ll include an exhibition of some of Chantry’s memorable works that demonstrate the concepts in his book. Come celebrate this amazing artist and his contributions to contemporary culture. This event coincides with the festive Georgetown Art Attack.
Fantagraphics Bookstore is located at 1201 S. Vale Street in the heart of Seattle’s colorful Georgetown arts community. Open daily 11:30 to 8:00 PM, Sundays until 5:00 PM. Phone 206.658.0110. See you all soon.
