Next Saturday, December 6th with the crisp air at your heels, warm yourself in the light of the Fantagrapahics Bookstore as two cartoonists present their modern comics. Neo-noir cartoonist Tim Lane and prolific self-publishing cartoonist Eroyn Franklin will fill the dark night with their tales of trouble and woe from 7pm on at the bookstore in Georgetown.
The event is also the Marathon II closing party! This is your last chance to ogle the curated work of Short Run Comix and Arts Festival exhibitors including John Porcellino, Pam Wishbow, Josh Simmons, MariNaomi, Ed Piskor, and Tom Neely.
Alternative cartoonist and illustrator Tim Lane resides in St. Louis, a bleak urban landscape that provides the backdrop for his austere suspense stories. Inspired by midcentury film noir, pulp adventure, and early EC crime comics, Lane constructs unflinching narratives with a seductively stark rendering technique. His acclaimed anthology, Abandoned Cars from Fantagraphics Books, is now available in trade paperback editions. Lane will present his latest collection of new American mythology, The Lonesome Go.
Eroyn Franklin is a Seattle-based comics artist, illustrator, and co-founder of Short Run Comix and Arts Festival. As Short Run's final events come to a close, and everyone wants a little more comics culture, Eroyn will present a sneak preview of her upcoming graphic novel, Dirtbag. The book is filled with ink wash illustrations that evoke a palpable sense of place and cinematic nostalgia. After escaping the monotony of suburban Texas, Eroyn embraces a dirtbag lifestyle fueled by idealism and the search for authenticity in the world of drunks, radicals, and sundry riffraff. She embarks on a lowbrow grand tour – dumpster diving, scamming rides, and squatting her way through Europe. Dirtbag is Eroyn's third graphic novel and is being produced with a CityArtist grant from The Seattle Office of Arts and Culture.
