National Cat Day

In honor of National Cat Day we’ve put together a list of Fantagraphics’ favorite felines. In no particular order, here are some of our top comics featuring cats:

lost-cat_Page_071. Lost Cat by Jason
Jason is a master of simplicity and subverting expectations. Lost Cat is a playful take on the classic detective story and a moving exploration of the unexpected ways people form connections.

 2. Wuvable Oaf by Ed Luce
While protagonist Oaf is indeed quite wuvable, his kitten companions are just as frequently endearing and adorable. Ed Luce gives troubled cats like Santino and Pavel genuine character development and their stories add an interesting layer to the already engaging human stories.

 3. The Complete Crumb by R. Crumb
Fair warning: this cat and his hijinks are NSFW. Crumb was still in high school when he came up with this character and The Complete Crumb Vol. 1 is the perfect way to explore some of the earliest appearances of this frisky feline.

4. Megahex by Simon Hanselmann
Mogg from Megahex is the stoner best friend you’ve always needed. You live, love, smoke blunts, and vomit everywhere together. Through thick or thin, Mogg is your ride-or-die cat.

5. The Clouds Above by Jordan Crane
A sweet story about a boy and his cat, skipping school to embark on a much more exciting adventure.
