NYC: Lucy Knisley at The Strand

There are still dinners to stretch your pants, holidays songs to sing, brightly lit-balls to drop but that doesn't mean you can't start planning parties for next year! On Monday, January 12th in the sparkling new year of 2015, cartoonist Lucy Knisley will be throwing one hell of a new year for a new book, Displacement, at The Strand in New York City. Lucy's last travelogue, An Age of License, featured the whimsical travels of a 20-something with time stretching infinitely in front of her. But in the pretty-yet-gritty Displacement, Lucy takes her two 90 year-old grandparents out on a cruise. It explores ageism, mortality and…

Get Zapped at Fantagraphics Bookstore

Our tribute to S. Clay Wilson at Fantagraphics Bookstore & Gallery on Saturday was a blast! Highlights included an entertaining presentation on the underground master by Patrick Rosenkranz, after which our friend Blaine Cook, frontman for metallic punk pioneers The Accused, showed Wilson's artwork for their More Fun Than an Open Casket Funeral LP. This marked the first time the original artwork had been publicly displayed. (Beware: Blaine is opening the Georgetown location of his award-winning Zippy's Burgers in January just three blocks from the bookstore.) A little later John Doe of X arrived ahead of their show at El Corazon….

Love and Rockets: New Stories #7 by Los Bros Hernandez – Photoset Preview

Praise for the Series: "In the 30 years they’ve been writing and drawing Love and Rockets, Los Bros Hernandez have created wonderfully complex story lines and characters… This web of superior magical-realistic storytelling involves readers in the perplexed yearnings of a huge cast of unforgettable characters unaware of their own capacity for general self-delusion and occasional self-discovery." – Publishers Weekly "Los Bros. are plain-spoken and sympathetic, finding pathos in even the grimiest character." – Sam Thielman, Newsday "There are acclaimed filmmakers and novelists who can’t do what Jaime Hernandez does — or Gilbert, for that matter. When the two of…
