NYC: Lucy Knisley at The Strand

There are still dinners to stretch your pants, holidays songs to sing, brightly lit-balls to drop but that doesn't mean you can't start planning parties for next year! On Monday, January 12th in the sparkling new year of 2015, cartoonist Lucy Knisley will be throwing one hell of a new year for a new book, Displacement, at The Strand in New York City. Lucy's last travelogue, An Age of License, featured the whimsical travels of a 20-something with time stretching infinitely in front of her. But in the pretty-yet-gritty Displacement, Lucy takes her two 90 year-old grandparents out on a cruise. It explores ageism, mortality and…

OCD Extra: December Booklist Reviews

This month's issue of Booklist will include review of a recent release by a Fantagraphics creator, excerpted below:   Pogo – The Complete Syndicated Comic Strips Volume 3: "Evidence to the Contrary" by Walt Kelly "Despite its cast of anthropomorphic animals-the eponymous possum, Albert the Alligator, Porky Pine, and the rest-Pogo was the most adult-aimed of all newspaper comic strips. The fluid grace of Kelly's artwork and the inventiveness of his humor are matched by his verbal dexterity, from the characters' cornpone patois to their ingenious wordplay. Four decades after its demise, Pogo remains one of a handful of truly essential…
