On July 9, Fantagraphics Bookstore & Gallery pays tribute to the phenomenal Intruder comix tabloid on the occasion of its final issue. It’s hard to overstate the influence of this publication on the local comix community. Over the course of 20 issues, this resourceful collective of Seattle cartoonists has elevated the careers of a number of artists including editor Marc Palm, Max Clotfelter, Tom van Deusen, Ben Horak, Brittany Kusa, James Stanton, Seth Goodkind, Marie Hausauer, John Ohannesian, Darin Schuler, Brandon Lehmann, David LaskyScott Travis, Joe Garber, and Billis Helg, among many others. It has inspired several sister publications around the region, and will likely spawn similar efforts in the future.

Join us in celebrating this remarkable achievement on Saturday, July 9 from 5:00 to 9:00 PM. The festivities will feature a retrospective art exhibition, free back issues and tables of comix from Intruder contributors and others in our outdoor Hot Off the Press book fair with special guest Sammy Harkham. We’ll provide complimentary refreshments and a set of new material from old school Seattle punk band Chinas Comidas. This event coincides with the lively Georgetown Art Attack, showcasing contemporary visual and performing arts throughout the historic neighborhood.

Fantagraphics Bookstore is located at 1201 S. Vale Street (at Airport Way S.) just minutes from downtown Seattle. Open daily 11:30 to 8:00 PM, Sundays until 5:00 PM. Phone 206-658-0110.
