For the past decade, we’ve been privileged to share space with our retail partners at Georgetown Records. The shop specializes in vintage vinyl – everything from early punk, power pop, prog, soul, industrial, electronica, garage, psychedelic, rock n roll, and more. This Saturday, April 22 marks the 10th annual Record Store Day, a national celebration of record shops. To commemorate the occasion, Georgetown Records presents live music by two Seattle bands: the blue-eyed soul of Bonneville Power featuring our own Martin Bland on drums, and roots rockers Paper Dolls. The music starts a 4:00 PM, but drop by early to pick up cool comix and records. Wherever you are, support your local record store this Saturday.
The following Saturday, April 29 is the 3rd annual Independent Bookstore Day. As brick and mortar booksellers are increasingly threatened by on-line discounters and electronic reading platforms, it’s important to appreciate the cultural contributions of these establishments. Fantagraphics Bookstore celebrates from 1:00 to 3:00 PM with a release feast for the Northwest Cartoonists Cookbook, a sumptuous culinary minicomic created especially for the occasion. The book contains recipes and ruminations on cooking by a cadre of gifted Seattle area artists: Handa, Ellen Forney, Roberta Gregory, Tatiana Gill, Max Clotfelter, Marie Hausauer, John Ohannesian, Regina Schilling, Kelly Froh, Brendan Kiefer, Sarah Romano Diehl, Mike Baehr, James Stanton, Marc Palm, Elaine Lin, Ryan Thies, Colleen Frakes, Anne Livingston, David Lasky, Rachel Scheer, Amy Camber, Pat Moriarity, Jim Blanchard, Bob Brabb, Dennis P Eichhorn, Brandon Lehmann, Mita Mahato, Robyn Jordan, Gillian Rhodes, Megan Kelso, Laura Knetzger, Lillian Beaty, Ben Horak, and Simon Hanselmann. Many contributing artists will bring samples of their dishes to share, and complimentary beverages will be served. Support your local indie booksellers on Independent Bookstore Day.
