Plan to spend your next couple Saturday evenings at Fantagraphics Bookstore & Gallery as we present some of the most compelling artists on the planet. This Saturday, March 3 at 7:00 PM, join us in welcoming Jaime Hernandez back to the bookstore for an informal reception and book signing following his appearance at Emerald City Comicon. Enjoy complimentary refreshments and casual conversation with one of the pioneers of alternative comix.
On Saturday, March 10 at 6:00 PM we host bestselling author Jonathan Evison reading from the 10th anniversary edition of his debut novel, All About Lulu (available for the first time at this event). This book won the 2008 Washington State Book Award and launched the career of one of the country’s most engaging and prolific writers. Evison’s career began in high school, when he fronted the band March of Crimes, which featured future members of Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, and other pop culture luminaries. He has since written nationally acclaimed novels including West of Here, This Is Your Life Harriet Chance, and The Revised Fundamentals of Caregiving (adapted to a Netflix original film starring Paul Rudd and Selena Gomez.) Come celebrate the first decade of this gifted artist.
Also appearing on March 10 is Berlin recording artist Mary Ocher, performing songs from her politically charged album, The West Against the People. Ocher has worked with Faust, King Khan, Ariel Pink, Sean Lennon, and other indie rock icons. We’ll also open an exhibition of prints by comix legend Wallace Wood with a brief overview of his career by Fantagraphics senior editor J. Michael Catron.
This event coincides with the lively Georgetown Second Saturday Art Attack featuring visual and performing arts presentations throughout the historic neighborhood. Fantagraphics Bookstore & Gallery is located at 1201 S. Vale Street, just minutes south of downtown Seattle. Open daily 11:30 to 8:00 PM, Sundays until 5:00 PM. Phone 206-557-4910.
