What’s in Store: Patrick Moriarity and special guest Dame Darcy

Join us on Saturday, March 9 from 6:00 to 9:00 PM at Fantagraphics Bookstore for an exhibition of drawings, prints, and paintings from Patrick Moriarity’s spectacular new 3D anthology Deep Artwork, together with special guest Dame Darcy reading from her recent memoir Hi Jax & Hi Jinx.

Moriarity relocated to Seattle from Minneapolis in 1991 to work as an art director at Fantagraphics Books. His popular series from that era, Big Mouth, illustrated stories by luminaries like Henry Rollins, Charles Bukowski, Harvey Pekar, R. Crumb, Dame Darcy and many more.  His latest project, Deep Artwork, adapts his cartoon imagery into 3 dimensions to phenomenal affect. The exhibition focuses on these illustrations and related works.  The display remains on view through April 10.

Dame Darcy’s enchanting 17-issue gothic romance, Meat Cake, was recently collected into the deluxe Meat Cake Bible edition by Fantagraphics Books. She’ll be reading from her new memoir Hi Jax & Hi Jinx, which chronicles her often chaotic and always entertaining career in comix, film, music, and performance art. Darcy will read selections from this work and sign copies of recent publications.

This event coincides with the lively Georgetown Art Attack featuring colorful visual and performing arts presentations throughout the historic neighborhood. Fantagraphics Bookstore & Gallery is located at 1201 S. Vale Street, just minutes from downtown Seattle. Open daily 11:30 to 8:00 PM, Sundays until 5:00 PM. Phone 206-557-4910.
