Please join us at Fantagraphics Bookstore & Gallery on Saturday, May 11 from 6:00 to 9:00 PM for the opening of an exhibition of paintings and prints by Augie Pagan. His colorful work responds to comics and pop culture imagery. Pagan, who lives above the bookstore, has contributed to our Jack Davis and Vaughn Bode tribute shows. We’re pleased to present this recent body of work, which remains on view through June 5. This event coincides with the lively Georgetown Art Attack featuring contemporary visual and performing arts presentations through the historic neighborhood.
On Friday, May 17 from 7:00 to 9:00 PM we’ll celebrate the release of City of Siege: Olympia from K Records, 40 years to the day after it was recorded. Tiny Holes were emblematic of the pop underground emerging from Olympia, WA in the late 70s and early 80s. The group included Bruce Pavitt, co-founder of the Sub Pop record label, musician and producer Steve Fisk, music promoter Steve Peters, and other important figures. Band members Fisk and Peters will be joined by the album’s producer, Jack Endino, and music publisher Rich Jensen to spin records and discuss this seminal scene that informed the later grunge and Riot Grrrl phenomena. Cool cover art by Peter Bagge. This promises to be fun and informative.
Fantagraphics Bookstore is located at 1201 S. Vale Street in the heart of the Georgetown art community, just minutes south of downtown Seattle. Open daily 11:30 to 8:00 PM, Sundays until 5:00 PM. Phone 206-557-4910.
