What’s in Store: Australian Artist Michael Fikaris and More!

Join us at Fantagraphics Bookstore on Saturday, February 23 from 3:00 to 5:00 PM for an informal reception and book signing with interdisciplinary Melbourne artist Michael Fikaris. From spearheading Australia’s fledgling alternative comics movement in the early 2000’s with Silent Army, Fikaris also works with various collaborative groups locally and abroad. As an illustrator and arts editor with a love for collaborating, he has edited and published almost 20 artist anthologies and coordinated over 200 artists in exhibitions through a number of artist run initiatives and institutions. Since 2013, Fikaris has held residencies in communities abroad as an artist and arts editor, and is currently working on a publication of Australian comic artists with a European publisher. In 2017 he was awarded the Platinum Ledger Award for outstanding service to Australian comics.

This event will also include a brief talk on EC artist Jack Kamen by Fantagraphics senior editor J. Michael Catron, which was rescheduled as a result of snow. A display of Kamen’s work is on view through March 6. Fantagraphics Bookstore & Gallery is located at 1201 S. Vale Street in the heart of Seattle’s historic Georgetown art community. Open daily 11:30 to 8:00 PM, Sundays until 5:00 PM. Phone 206-557-4910.
