We’re Susceptible to Geneviève Castrée at the Fantagraphics Bookstore & Gallery!

Thank you so much to everyone who came out this past weekend for our signing with the wonderful Geneviève Castrée, whose debut graphic novel Susceptible is out now from our friends at Drawn & Quarterly! She gave a wonderful and spirited slideshow presentation, and at one point she had to don her husband's glasses in order to see the slides herself!  I learned so much from her talk that even though I was halfway through reading the book, when I got home, I started over again with all this new, fascinating information in mind!   And huge kudos to…

Fantagraphics to Publish Book of Guantanamo Courtroom Sketches by Janet Hamlin

Janet Hamlin Uncovers the Humanity Hidden Within Guantanamo's Walls in Sketching Guantanamo (not final cover art) Sketching Guantanamo: Court Sketches of the Military Tribunals, 2006-2013 by Janet Hamlin In the wake of 9-11, alleged terrorists were housed on a U.S. military base in Guantanamo, Cuba. While there, these terrorist suspects were confined in "indefinite detention," off the American mainland, unaccountable to the U.S. judicial system, nameless and faceless to the world. At the military trials of Guantanamo, which started in 2006, no photographs were permitted in the courtroom. Only one person was allowed to cover the trials, not with a…

First Look: The Complete Crumb Comics Vol. 5 reprint

In a couple of months we have a new reprint of The Complete Crumb Comics Vol. 5: Happy Hippy Comix coming your way, and we got an advance sample copy to show off to you. As you might surmise from the title, this volume has some of Crumb's most transgressive and drug-influenced stuff, with Fritz the Cat, Mr. Natural, and Angelfood McSpade all taking star turns, among other kooky characters, in material from Zap, Snatch and elsewhere. Plus Janis Joplin! It's wild, man! The original edition brought in a 1991 Harvey Award for Best Domestic Reprint Project and Booklist had this to…

Gary Panter T-Shirt for WFMUthon 2013!

Our friends at listener-supported radio station WFMU are wrapping up their annual Pledge Drive this Sunday, March 17th, so it's not too late to help them reach their goal! In the past, they've auctioned off our very own Irwin Chusid, the fine editor of the Jim Flora art books. But we need Irwin for the upcoming collection The High Fidelity Art of Jim Flora, due out this Summer. So, instead check out that WFMU tee that Gary Panter designed for them! (The lime green kittycat one; the radio zombies are by Mayuko Fujino, who we don't publish, but I just…

Our local legend and store empresario Larry Reid manned the booth all weekend long, fueled by coffee and his lifelong love of comics. Peter Bagge drew this adorable sketch of a cosplayer as Miyazaki's Kiki! Speakin' of Pete, we've still got a few of the exclusive t-shirts he designed for ECCC at the Fantagraphics Bookstore & Gallery, while they last. Here's Bill Schelly and Michel Gagné, comparing the printing on Weird Horrors & Daring Adventures: The…
