Comic Arf – Exclusive Preview

{product_snapshot:id=1465,true,false,true,left}Another great Arf book for 2008, and it features one of the greatest comickers of all: Milt Gross! The Gross-ness starts off with a stunning cover painting done in the 1930s but, as they say, ripped from today’s headlines. It’s all about immigration: Uncle Sam grinds up a sea of immigrants and out come… classic comic strip characters! Milt Gross drew a 1920s comic that left the last panel blank for aspiring cartoonists. Editor Craig Yoe drafted a who’s who of contemporary cartoonists to complete Gross’s unfinished masterpieces. Art Spiegelman, Seymour Chwast, Patrick McDonnell, Mort Walker, R. Crumb, Bil Keane,…

Meet Willie & Joe

Our advance copies of Bill Mauldin's Willie & Joe: The WWII Years arrived at the office yesterday, and hot mustard, this thing is a beaut. We took some photos and put up a preview slideshow on Flickr for your viewing enjoyment.

David Boring Wears Chocolate

Our pal Rebecca Rosen from Drawn & Quarterly sent us these pictures from a mall in Bizarro World (a.k.a. Hong Kong). If there are any more Flog readers out there in Hong Kong, send more pictures! Rebecca took all she could: "Sorry I didn't get a better shot of the panel display….That last kind of blurry shot? That's when the security guard began loudly reprimanding me in Cantonese for illegally taking pictures in a mall."

Alexander Theroux interview at Bookslut

Here's an excellent interview with Alexander Theroux from Bookslut. "Every publisher is waiting for another Stephen King. They go to lunch and wait. Agents are lazy. Most editors couldn't tell a good novel from a pile of chimney flashing."

Flog Giveaway: Jason Lettering!

While we were putting together his upcoming release, Pocket Full of Rain, Jason sent over this small swatch of lettering– the title of a single page story in the book. He has given his blessing to give away this tiny treasure to the first Flog reader to post in the comments board. I'm not going to get clever and ask you to answer any questions, just be a fan. Leave a contact email address and I'll write you. Approx. 2.75" x 4" on what I'm sure is non-archival copy paper. Touched by Kim Thompson and myself only. Insurance value: $400,000.00.
