On Saturday, February 22nd, join author Pat Thomas for the panel discussion Listen to the Party Music Whitey!: The Soundtrack of the Black Liberation Movement. He'll be signing and discussing his award-winning book, Listen, Whitey! The Sights and Sounds of Black Power 1965-1975!
The Museum of the African Diaspora (MoAD) in San Francisco will host this engaging afternoon in conjunction with their exhibit Crosscurrents: Africa and Black Diaspora in Dialogue, 1960-1980. Pat will be joined by Rickey Vincent, author of Party Music: The Inside Story of the Black Panthers' Band and How Black Power Transformed Soul Music, and moderator Davey D, a nationally recognized journalist, adjunct professor, Hip Hop historian, syndicated talk show host, radio programmer, producer, deejay, media and community activist.
Join them from 2:00 to 4:00 PM! Together, they'll examine the culture and politics of the Black Power era of the late 1960s. The event will include a multi-media presentation of rare images and unusual recordings that capture the "sights and sounds" of the era and the movement.
MoAD is located at 685 Mission Street (at Third) in San Francisco. This event is free with MoAD admission.
