Congratulations to Lilli Carré for being awarded the third annual Columbus Museum of Art and Thurber House residency! Carré follows two years of Fantagraphics cartoonists as a winner (Ed Piskor and Paul Hornschemeier) to Ohio. Carré will be staying at the historic home of author and New Yorker cartoonist, James Thurber (and throwing RAD parties – joke!).
While in town, she'll have a number of events the public and students may attend:
At Thurber House:
Young Writers' Studio
Tuesday, March 18, 6:00-8:00 pm – Led by Lilli Carré. Visit thurberhouse.org for more information
At CMA:
2014 Graphic Novelist Residency Exhibition
On view March 14 – June 8 – This exhibition showcases the variety of Lilli Carré's creative practice and includes art works in several media.
Art Lab visiting artist
Wednesday, March 19 – Lilli Carré will meet with the high school interns enrolled in CMA's Art Lab program.
Artist's Talk and Interview
Sunday, March 30, 2:00 pm – Lilli Carré speaks about her creative process with interviewer, comics writer, and blogger Jared Gardner, a professor of English and Film Studies at OSU. Free with museum admission.
Her last book with Fantagraphics, a collection called Heads or Tails was a nominee for many awards like the 2013 Eisner nomination for best Graphic Album – Reprint, 2013 Ignatz for Outsanding Artist, Outstanding Anthology and Outstanding Story plus a 2013 Lynd Ward Graphic Novel Prize Honor Book. Enticed and intrigued? There's at least two more copies left (on earth) at the Elliott Bay Book Company in Seattle.
