The public of all ages is once again invited to enjoy the unique pleasures of Seattle’s most colorful arts community during the Georgetown Second Saturday Art Attack on September 13. This lively celebration of Georgetown’s creative diversity involves up to 30 enterprises programming provocative visual and performing arts, dining, shopping and spontaneous entertainment.
Highlights of the Art Attack offensive on Saturday, September 13 include:
“Phono Graphics,” an exquisite exhibition by Seattle DJ and visual artist David Rauschenberg at Georgetown Tile Works. Rauschenberg combines his passion for art and music with portraits of musical legends etched on black vinyl and mounted on handcrafted turntables; An appearance by notorious New York cartoonist and illustrator Danny Hellman, together with local cartoonists D. J. Bryant, Dalton Webb, Pat Moriarity, Max Clotfelter, and Mark Campos for a book signing of the new “Typhon” anthology at Fantagraphics Bookstore & Gallery. Hellman will present a multimedia cartoon performance and Moriarity will perform a short music set with his 10-year-old son Jack – as seen on Willie Nelson’s website; Georgetown Art Center presents a group show of seductive encaustic paintings, and All City Coffee hosts a delightful exhibition of neo-Pop paintings by Lucas Vidana; Open salons at the studios of independent Georgetown artists.
The evening will conclude with “The Summer’s Last Beach Party” in honor of the artists, volunteers, and sponsors of last summer’s Artopia arts festival. Musical entertainment will be provided by the sensational sounds of the DEL LAGUNAS. This instrumental surf and garage combo boasts an impressive pedigree that marks the reunion of [former Fantagraphics staffer – Ed.] Tom Price and Chas Ryan of Seattle’s legendary U-Men. The Del Lagunas will be joined by Georgetown’s own DUBCAR performing a sensuous Caribbean blend of rock ‘n’ roll, old school reggae, funk and soul. Frothy surf films, fabulous music, sand, suds, sun and fun all located at the exotic environment of The Stables. The Georgetown Art Attack is a promotion of the Georgetown Merchants’ Association.
