This beautifully curated art book and biography by Billy Ireland Library Associate Curator Caitlin McGurk celebrates the pioneering work of Barbara Shermund, one of America’s first female cartoonists. This volume not only showcases her groundbreaking contributions to iconic magazines like The New Yorker and Esquire, but also brings to light her vibrant and insightful portrayals of women’s lives in the early 20th century. McGurk’s meticulous research and presentation of Shermund’s work and life story will undoubtedly and deservedly place her in the canon of cartoon art history.
