Ellen Forney gained critical-acclaim with her best-selling graphic memoir Marbles: Mania, Depression, Michelangelo, and Me and is back with an eagerly awaited sequel/companion book: Rock Steady: Brilliant Advice From My Bipolar Life. While the first book was an examination about her bipolar disorder, this new book shifts the focus from the internal to the external. It offers tips and tricks, and serves as a guide to navigating life.
Join us in the second floor Art Department as Ellen shares this intimate look into her life.
Ellen Forney was the 2012 recipient of The Stranger Genius Award for Literature as well as the winner of the National Association for the Advancement of Psychoanalysis 2013 Gradiva Award.
In conversation with Ellen will be Kriota Willberg. As a working cartoonist, Willberg uses comics, needlework, historical studies, bioethics, and her experiences from her career as a massage therapist and health science educator to explore body/science narratives. Combining this history with her background as an artist and educator, she has been creating comics and teaching artists about injury prevention through panels, workshops, and a series of mini comics, now combined with additional materials into Draw Stronger (Uncivilized Books, April 2018).
