SUMMARY:Laguna Hills\, California: Ezra Claytan Daniels and Ben Passmore at Nuclear Comics
DESCRIPTION:Cartoonists Ezra Claytan Daniels and Ben Passmore will read from and sign their Harvey Award-nominated sci-fi graphic novel\, BTTM FDRS Wednesday\, September 4th from 7-9 PM! \nOnce a thriving working-class neighborhood on Chicago’s south side\, the “Bottomyards” is now the definition of urban blight. When an aspiring fashion designer and her image-obsessed BFF descend upon the hood in search of cheap rent\, they discover something far more seductive… and deadly. BTTM FDRS is a parable of gentrification and cultural appropriation that manages to be as hilarious as it is truly horrifying. \nFantagraphics.com/bttm-fdrs/

SUMMARY:New Orleans: Kate Lacour at Crescent City Comics
DESCRIPTION:Join us at Crescent City Comics August 24th at 6 PM for a signing of Kate Lacour’s newest work Vivisectionary! \nKate Lacour’s Vivisectionary is a series of visual sequential experiments in the physiological\, the pathological\, and the occult. A bizarre and mesmerizing investigation through the marvels of biology and myth to uncover the extraordinary in the ordinary\, the magic in science\, the sublime in the grotesque. Part art comic\, part surrealist textbook\, Vivisectionary is a delightfully grotesque mix of the mundane and the macabre. \nWhat if lactating snakes gestated inside fetuses? What if factory-farmed pigs were bred as giant\, insentient cubes? What if the human spine generated methamphetamine capsules? These single page sequential images illustrate these and many other marvelous\, hideous\, enigmatic physiological mysteries. Each comics sequence is stitched together (pun intended) by a narrative thread that forms a strange and mesmerizing voyage through the body.

SUMMARY:Portland: Ulli Lust at Floating World Comics
DESCRIPTION:Ulli Lust\, author of the LA Times Book Prize-winning graphic memoir Today Is the Last Day of the Rest of Your Life\, joins us to celebrate the launch of her new book\, How I Tried to Be a Good Person. \nHow I Tried to Be a Good Person is a story of sexual obsession\, gender conflict\, and self-liberation\, told with an honesty few cartoonists are capable of. This powerfully vulnerable graphic memoir follows Lust’s life as a young\, enthusiastic anarchist making her way in 1990s Vienna. In the hopes of fulfilling all of her romantic needs\, Lust enters into a tumultuous love triangle with two men: the “perfect companion” Georg\, an actor twenty years her elder\, and the “perfect lover” Kimata\, a Nigerian man-about-town. As her relationships with the two men evolve\, jealousy increasingly mounts and the ensuing violent emotions leave her worried for her life. \nUlli will present and sign her book at Floating World on Wednesday\, July 17th at 6pm. See you there! \nWHO: Ulli Lust\nWHAT: How I Tried To Be A Good Person book signing\nWHEN: Wednesday July 17\, 6-8pm\nWHERE: Floating World Comics\, 400 NW Couch St. \nUlli Lust was born in 1967 in Vienna; in 1995\, she moved to Berlin\, where she studied graphic design and now lives as a cartoonist. She is best known for her award-winning graphic memoir Today Is the Last Day of the Rest of Your Life (2013)\, in which she chronicles one rebellious teenaged summer spent hitching across Italy. Her newest book is a continuation of her memoirs entitled How I Tried to Be a Good Person.

SUMMARY:Seattle: Ulli Lust & Zak Sally at Goethe Pop Up Seattle
DESCRIPTION:Join one of Berlin’s most lauded comics artists\, Ulli Lust\, and Minneapolis artist and musician Zak Sally for a reading and discussion of their recent work. \nIn “Wie ich versuchte\, ein guter Mensch zu sein” (How I Tried to Be a Good Person)\, Ulli Lust takes the readers on the hilarious yet emotionally complex journeys of a young Viennese artist torn between two men. The graphic novel is a powerful memoir that blends personal experiences—stories of sexual obsession\, gender conflict\, and self-liberation—with broader themes\, such as female empowerment\, alternative family arrangements\, domestic violence\, and refugee policies. Lust presents her female character neither as a victim nor a perpetrator\, but as a woman overwhelmed by her various roles as partner\, lover\, and mother. \nZak Sally reads from his memoir “Folrath”\, an account of the time when he forged a Greyhound bus pass and traveled the American West with no destination in sight. Sally self-published his first comic zine on a photocopier at the age of thirteen and has been making comics and zines ever since. His work shares with Lust revealing autobiographical details of youthful wanderlust with little regard for consequences. \nAttendance is free\, but space is limited so we kindly ask everyone to register in advance via Eventbrite. \nThe event is co-presented with Fantagraphics Books Seattle.
