SUMMARY:Virtual: Lane Milburn (Lure) in conversation with Tom Kaczynski (Beta Testing the Ongoing Apocalypse) at Greenlight Bookstore
DESCRIPTION:Greenlight welcomes cartoonist Lane Milburn for the launch of his debut science fiction graphic novel\, Lure\, a scintillating\, close-to-home dystopic parable rendered in haunting and kaleidoscopic detail. In a questionably-distant future\, the world’s elite use the ocean planet Lure as a luxury vacation hub—but when climate change threatens Earth’s long-term habitability\, many of those who can afford it move to Lure for good. When artist Jo Spartz is invited to Lure to collaborate on a large-scale public art installation\, it seems like the chance of a lifetime until she stumbles across a nefarious plot by her corporate benefactors and feels compelled to go public. Sound familiar? Milburn is joined in conversation by cartoonist\, publisher\, and author of Beta Testing the Ongoing Apocalypse Tom Kaczynski for a conversation on dystopian fiction\, the craft of comics and the value of art in the light of climate change. \nPre-order Lure from Greenlight Bookstore at https://www.greenlightbookstore.com/book/9781683964780

SUMMARY:Virtual: Lane Milburn (Lure) in conversation with Evan Narcisse (Rise of the Black Panther\, Marvel's Voices #1) at Secret Headquarters
DESCRIPTION:Streaming live to Fantagraphics’ Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/fantagraphics \nJoin cartoonist Lane Milburn for a virtual event celebrating the release of his newest book\, Lure! Lane will sit down with fellow artist and comics journalist Evan Narcisse (Rise of the Black Panther\, Marvel’s Voices #1) to discuss the role of art (and the artist) in the apocalypse. Signed bookplate copies available to order via our virtual hosts\, Secret Headquarters in Los Angeles\, CA! \nBuy the book: https://thesecretheadquarters.bigcartel.com/ \nAbout the book: In this SF graphic novel\, a group of idealistic young artists from Earth are commissioned to collaborate on a corporate art project for a planet that has been colonized for luxury living. \nThe world’s elite use the ocean planet of Lure as a luxury vacation hub for a decade. But when climate change threatens Earth’s long-term habitability\, many of those who can afford it move to Lure for good. When the opportunity to work there for a year is offered to visual artist Jo Sparta\, as part of a group of artists collaborating on a large-scale installation of public art\, it seems like the chance of a lifetime. But then\, Jo stumbles across a nefarious plot by her corporate benefactors and feels compelled to go public. Lure showcases Milburn’s rich visual imagination\, with the planet Lure itself an ever-seductive\, otherworldly paradise against which he spotlights themes of climate change\, the disparity of wealth\, and the value of art — all in the service of a grippingly moral thriller.

SUMMARY:Iowa City\, IA: Ana Merino (Illustrating Spain in the US) Book Launch at the Iowa City Public Library
DESCRIPTION:Please join Prairie Lights Books at the Iowa City Public Library to celebrate the release of Ana Merino’s new collection Illustrating Spain in the US\, a dazzling combination of comics and essays that sheds light on the rich but often overlooked contributions of Spanish immigrants to the political\, cultural\, and scientific history of the US\, translated by Marta González-Cutre. \nDiplomat Eduardo Garrigues and cartoonist Rayco Pulido resurrect the historical figure of Bernardo de Gálvez\, who played a crucial role in the Revolutionary War. Professor James Fernández\, Filmmaker Luis Argeo and artists Ana Penyas and Seisdedos bring to life the rollicking immigrant enclave of Tampa\, once known as the “Cigar Capital of the World.” Professor Estrella de Diego and cartoonist Carla Berrocal shed light on the Spanish actors\, screenwriters and musicians who broke into Hollywood and made their mark on American cinema. Professor María Dolores Jiménez-Blanco and cartoonist Max lead readers through the labyrinthine history of Spanish art collecting in the US\, and the influence of Spanish art on popular American art movements. And much more! \nAna Merino (b. Madrid) is an award-winning writer and a Professor of Spanish Creative Writing and Cultural Studies at the University of Iowa. She has written extensive criticism on comics and graphic novels\, has authored two academic books and a monograph on Chris Ware and has curated five comic book exhibitions. She was a member of the ICAF (International Comic Arts Forum) Executive Committee from 2001–2011 and a Directors Board founder member at The Center for Cartoon Studies from 2004–2014. She currently lives in Iowa. \nMarta González-Cutre is a freelance translator\, proofreader\, and professor of English based in the Canary Islands. She has a Masters in International Business Management from the Center of Economic and Commercial Studies.

SUMMARY:Virtual: Ron Regé\, Jr. (Halcyon) in conversation with Annie Mok at Secret Headquarters
DESCRIPTION:Streaming live to Fantagraphics’ Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/fantagraphics \nJoin cartoonist Ron Regé\, Jr. for a virtual event celebrating the release of his newest book\, Halcyon! Ron will sit down with writer-artist Annie Mok to discuss the graphic novel Publisher’s Weekly called “dazzling art from a dazzling mind”! \nSigned copies available to order via our virtual hosts\, Secret Headquarters in Los Angeles\, CA! \nBuy the book: https://thesecretheadquarters.bigcartel.com/ \nAbout the book: Halcyon is a graceful and psychedelic vision of a graphic novel that spans time\, terrestrial planes\, SF\, and new age mysticism to detail the spiritual journeys of its two nonbinary protagonists. \nThe sleeping figure on the cover hints at the dream logic that drives this visual feast of a graphic novel. It can’t all be explained\, and it isn’t meant to be explained. Ron Regé\, Jr. is one of the singular cartoonists of his generation\, an unusual but skilled stylist and storyteller with an acutely passionate moral and idealistic core that stands out amongst his peers. Halcyon is a spiritual cousin to Regé’s 2012 graphic novel The Cartoon Utopia\, which has garnered a following in new age and hermeneutic studies circles and in which higher beings try to communicate with us through art\, music\, and storytelling — a theme revisited here via the book’s central characters. Halcyon is the work of a cartoonist at the height of his powers\, a superlative use of the form in the service of relating the author’s compassionate — and visually stunning — worldview.

SUMMARY:New York\, NY: "Hard-Ass Friday Night: The Art of Spain Rodriguez" Exhibition at Andrew Edlin Gallery
DESCRIPTION:Andrew Edlin Gallery is pleased to announce Hard-Ass Friday Night: The Art of Spain Rodriguez\, its first show for the artist since announcing its representation of the estate. Curated by Dan Nadel\, this career-spanning retrospective will include unique drawings for comics from the 1960s through the 1990s alongside sketchbooks\, paintings\, and ephemera. \nSpain Rodriguez (1940-2012)\, called the “socialist soul” of the 1960s underground comics movement\, combined leftist politics\, outlaw biker adventure\, and science fiction in dynamically\ndrawn stories. He was a natural yarn spinner with an entertainer’s flair for dramatic staging\, noir cityscapes\, and striking figures. Robert Crumb\, who has called Spain a mentor\, said recently\, “His politics were driven by genuine\, authentic class anger\, class hatred. It was always clarifying\, bracing\, to discuss politics\, social and cultural issues with him.” \nRaised in Buffalo\, New York\, he attended an art trade school for a few years before working a factory job for the first part of the 1960s. In Buffalo he became a member of the Road Vultures\nMotorcycle Club\, which offered him comradery and decades of material. When Spain moved to New York’s East Village in the mid-1960s\, he began a nearly fifty-year run of publishing that\nended with his passing. He became a staff cartoonist for the most renowned of the underground newspapers\, the East Village Other\, appearing alongside the likes of Ed Sanders and Allen Ginsberg. There he introduced the world to Trashman\, Agent of the 6th International\, a kind of urban Marxist James Bond\, and the corrupt cop Manning. Original drawings from both series\nwill be on view for the first time in decades. Trashman\, in all his class-warrior glory\, is further represented by individual drawings and complete stories from the 1960s through the 1980s.\nTwo of his autobiographical comic book epics\, originally published in Zap Comix in 1975 and 1982\, will be exhibited in their entirety\, as well as a painting made in honor of the motorcycle club. \nIn 1969 Spain moved to San Francisco\, where he was invited to join Zap Comix by Robert Crumb. Two intensely detailed collaborative “jam” drawings for Zap by Spain\, Crumb\, Robert\nWilliams\, Victor Moscoso\, and S. Clay Wilson will be on view. Spain went on to either found or contribute to many of the most important underground comics\, including his own Subvert\nComics\, Insect Fear Comics\, and the seminal anthologies Arcade and Weirdo. Rare editions of these comic books\, as well as underground newspapers\, flyers\, sketchbooks\, and art from Spain’s personal collection by the likes of Robert Crumb\, Gilbert Shelton\, Willy Mendes\, and Johnny Craig will offer historical and visual context for Spain’s life and work. \nExhibition Events:\nOpening Reception\nFebruary 12\, 3–7pm at Andrew Edlin Gallery \nRobert Crumb and Aline Kominsky-Crumb in conversation with exhibition curator Dan Nadel\nFebruary 24\, 1pm EST on Zoom \nBad Attitude: The Art of Spain Rodriguez film screening with dir. Susan Stern and Kim Deitch\nMarch 24\, 6:30pm at Andrew Edlin Gallery

SUMMARY:Los Angeles\, CA: Johnny Ryan (Prison Pit: the Complete Collection) Book Launch at Secret Headquarters
DESCRIPTION:Johnny Ryan will sign copies of his bestselling epic\, Prison Pit: the Complete Collection\, at Secret Headquarters from 6:00-7:00 pm PST! Customers will be asked to wear masks in the store\, in the line\, and when they approach the signing table\, and to maintain social distance while in line. Be cool\, everyone! \nThis filthy meat-grinder of a comics battle royale is collected in one massive volume\, now in paperback! \nPrison Pit is a planet full of repugnant intergalactic criminals\, drug-filled slugs\, and now Cannibal F***face (CF). From 2009 to 2018\, the crudely manic pen and mind of Johnny Ryan documented mayhem and mutation\, as CF loses his arm to a vile beast\, replaces it with a symbiotic bug that gives him a steroid-like jolt\, and seeks grisly revenge against any and all creatures. To find his way out he must do battle with his archenemy\, Slitt\, the only one who knows how to escape the hellscape they inhabit. Finally\, CF is pitted against the very system that shaped him into the avatar of death and destruction he has become. \nOriginally collected in hardcover in 2020 at the height of the pandemic\, Prison Pit: The Complete Collection sold out immediately and fans have been clamoring for a mass market paperback ever since. Combining Ryan’s love for WWE wrestling\, Gary Panter’s Jimbo comics\, Kentaro Miura’s Berserk\, and other influences into a brutal showcase of violence\, survival\, and revenge\, this hilarious\, all-original fantasy is for anyone who’s ever wielded a plus-five vorpal blade\, lost an afternoon to World of Warcraft\, devoured a stack of seinen manga\, or cheered when a colorfully costumed villain leaped into the ring to beat someone down with a chair. A funny\, filthy\, epic sci-fi odyssey\, The Complete Prison Pit is a masterclass in comics storytelling and has earned a place in the comics canon.

DESCRIPTION:Elizabeth Haidle will sign copies of her gorgeous new book\, Party of One\, at Fantagraphics Bookstore and Gallery from 1:00-2:00 pm PST! She’ll also be jazzing up the front window of the store and we can’t wait to see how it looks–stop on by! \nOffering keen and thoughtful insight into the creative process\, this collection of lush figurative watercolor drawings is a fascinating glimpse into the whimsical mind of one of the most imaginative illustrators working today. \nFor the past five plus years\, Portland-based artist Elizabeth Haidle has attended figure drawing sessions and honed her illustration skills. Party of One gathers together a medley of her most dazzling watercolor creations from this period. Delightful to look at\, these lushly painted drawings also uncover the nuances of expression and gesture and evoke the personalities behind the poses. In addition to the gorgeous art\, this collection offers insights into the creative process. Each tableaux of painted figures is accompanied by commentary from the artist herself — fresh\, philosophical\, funny\, thought provoking\, and brief — like the musings of David Shrigley. \nIf you get your copy of Party of One at the event\, you’ll get an exclusive riso printed bookmark (while supplies last)!

SUMMARY:Philadelphia\, PA: Kate Schneider (Headland) Book Launch at Partners and Son
DESCRIPTION:Please join Partners and Son to celebrate the release of Kate Schneider’s new book\, Headland! Customers will be asked to wear masks in the store\, in the line\, and when they approach the signing table\, and to maintain social distance while in line. \nIn Headland\, artist Kate Schneider pays tribute to her departed grandmother\, presenting with deeply felt empathy a perspective little represented in popular literature. Drawn with soft pencils and lush colors\, this graphic novel explores the tensions between safety and autonomy\, language and silence\, holding on and letting go. \n“It can be so difficult\, so terrifying\, really\, to witness and wonder about and honor someone’s fundamental solitude. To regard our solitudes as wonders. Kate Schneider’s Headland is precisely that — a lyric wonder about a beloved’s deepest solitude — that feels as loving\, as beloving\, as true\, as almost anything I’ve ever read. This is a beautiful book.” — Ross Gay (The Book of Delights)

SUMMARY:Philadelphia\, PA: Tom Kaczynski (Beta Testing the Ongoing Apocalypse) Book Launch at Partners and Son
DESCRIPTION:Don’t miss the book launch for Beta Testing the Ongoing Apocalypse by Tom Kaczynski! Customers will be asked to wear masks in the store\, in the line\, and when they approach the signing table\, and to maintain social distance while in line. \nIn this new\, expanded edition\, the starting point is arbitrary. From there\, the city expands in all directions. At once SF\, a contemporary demonology\, an occult theory\, a mutant utopia and an architectural treatise\, Beta Testing the Ongoing Apocalypse is a collection of graphic fictions about the contemporary global megalopolis. \nThis groundbreaking collection\, originally published in an Eisner-nominated\, smaller edition a decade ago\, has only proven more prescient and resonant to our contemporary times than ever. For this new edition\, Kaczynski created the original stories “Billion Dollar Budget” and “Rediscovery of the Real” and annotations. There’s also a new foreword by science fiction writer Christopher Brown (Tropic of Kansas) and an entirely new cover design. Tom Kaczynski’s graphic short stories trace a complex space-time trajectory from the smallest corporate cubicle out to farthest fathoms of the multiverse. Occult economics\, metaphysical traffic jams\, Marxist zombies on Mars\, secret architectural societies\, designer ghosts from the future\, and demographics demons are just a few elements of a new untested future eschatology.

SUMMARY:Portland\, OR: Conor Stechschulte (Ultrasound) Book Signing at Floating World Comics
DESCRIPTION:Hey\, Portland! Join us at Floating World Comics to celebrate the release of Ultrasound by Conor Stechschulte! \nAbout the book: \nIn this graphic novel\, which has been adapted into a feature film starring Vincent Kartheiser (Mad Men)\, Glen and Cyndi become unwitting test subjects in a mind-control experiment after a strange sexual encounter. They search for answers as their own memories become tools for manipulation. \nDriving home from a wedding late one night during a heavy storm\, out of cell range\, Glen blows out his tires. He knocks on the door of the only house he sees and is greeted by an uncomfortably friendly middle-aged man\, Arthur\, and his attractive younger wife\, Cyndi. The strange couple pours him a drink\, and then more drinks\, followed by odd confessions and an unexpected offer that Glen can’t refuse. Where Ultrasound zigs and zags from there is into a dizzying plot involving mind control\, government secrets\, gaslighting\, and political intrigue that is always one step ahead of the reader. Stechschulte’s brilliant use of color and mastery of comics storytelling yields a breathtaking puzzlebox of a sci fi thriller — the moment you finish\, you will want to go back and reread Ultrasound from the start. \nUltrasound has also been adapted into an acclaimed feature film directed by Robert Schroeder and starring Vincent Kartheiser (Mad Men)\, from a screenplay by Stechschulte. The film earned raves at the 2021 Tribeca Film Fest and was released in theaters in March 2022 and will premiere streaming on Hulu in June. \n

SUMMARY:Virtual: Benjamin Marra\, David Birke\, and Nicholas McCarthy (Disciples) Virtual Book Launch at Skylight Books
DESCRIPTION:*Please note: This event will take place live on Crowdcast. RSVP here to join the livestream or watch the replay. \nPreorders will include an exclusive bookplate signed by Benjamin Marra\, David Birke and Nicholas McCarthy while supplies last! Order yours here! \nAbout the book: \nMarin County\, 1978. In this graphic novel\, teens Clara and Wendy get high one night alone at home. Before the night ends\, they’ve disappeared — until five months later\, when Clara is found\, disheveled\, but alive\, in Death Valley National Park. \nFrom Clara’s mysterious reappearance in Death Valley\, Disciples cuts to the present day\, where stories of “The California Cult” and its enigmatic — and never-caught — leader\, Billy Joe\, are as much a part of the popular culture as the Manson Family. Clara\, the lone survivor of the cult\, has adopted a new identity to protect her and her daughter\, Wren. And she mostly does\, until one night when the past and present horrifically collide. \nDisciples is a seamless collaboration between cartoonist Ben Marra and filmmakers David Birke and Nicholas McCarthy. Birke and McCarthy’s script celebrates and reinvents a cult film ethos. It combines the best of 1970s era eerie-thriller-terror movies in a fresh and revelatory way\, similar to how Marra has continued/reinvented the work of Abel Ferrara and George Cosmatos in graphic novels like Night Business. \nBenjamin Marra is the author of several acclaimed graphic novels from Fantagraphics\, including Terror Assaulter (O.M.W.O.T.)\, Night Business\, and American Blood. He received a B.F.A. in Illustration from Syracuse University; studied in Florence\, Italy; and earned his M.F.A. degree in Illustration from the School of Visual Arts. He lives in Montreal. \nDavid Birke is a screenwriter known for the films Elle (2016)\, Slender Man (2018)\, and 13 Sins (2014). He lives in Tarzana with his wife and two daughters. \nNicholas McCarthy is a writer and director\, known for The Pact (2012)\, At the Devil’s Door (2014) and The Prodigy (2019).

SUMMARY:Virtual: Mikael Ross (Golden Boy: Beethoven's Youth) in conversation with Nika Knight and Eric Reynolds
DESCRIPTION:Join Goethe Pop Up Seattle\, Elliott Bay Book Company\, and Fantagraphics for a virtual book talk in celebration of the launch of the English edition of Golden Boy: Beethoven’s Youth. Comic artist & author Mikael Ross will discuss the book and his process with translator Nika Knight. Fantagraphics’ own Eric Reynolds will moderate the talk. \nThe book talk will take place online on Saturday\, June 11th at 11:00 AM PT. Please register to receive Zoom access info. \nWant a copy of the book? Order now from Elliott Bay Book Company! \n  \nAbout the book: \nLudwig van Beethoven created music that moves and inspires us to this day; his very name sparks a melody in the ear. But are you born a genius? This graphic biography asks: “Who was Beethoven before he became ‘Beethoven?'” \nMaster cartoonist Mikael Ross tells the story of Beethoven from 1778 to his first major public appearance in Vienna in 1795. It begins when the family is living a difficult life in Bonn. Father Johann battles with alcoholism and is deep in debt. Only young Ludwig and his talent at the piano offer any hope for the future — if only he would stop composing his own pieces and just play what’s expected of him. \nAuthor Ross was asked to do a small comic for the Berlin State Library. Through this opportunity\, he encountered the diaries of the baker’s son that lived downstairs from Beethoven’s family\, the content of which inspired Golden Boy. As in his previous book\, The Thud\, Ross skillfully mixes humor with empathy and pure social drama\, crafting a coming-of-age story that transcends its biographical subject matter. His colorful\, expressive style and mastery of the language of comics are perfectly suited to the tall task of capturing Beethoven’s timeless music visually. \n  \nAbout the speakers: \nMikael Ross (born in Munich in 1984) initially trained as a theater cutter at the Bavarian State Opera. A move to Berlin and studies at the Berlin-Weißensee Art Academy influenced his first longer story\, Herrengedeck\, which he self-published in 2008. Together with the Belgian scriptwriter and illustrator Nicolas Wouters\, he wrote and drew the graphic novel Les pieds dans le béton (2013). His graphic novel The Thud (2018) received the Max & Moritz Prize for “Best German-language Comic” in 2020. Goldjunge\, published in 2020\, also received the Max & Moritz Prize; Fantagraphics will release the English translation in May 2022. \nNika Knight is a writer and translator of German literature. She has an MFA in literary translation and nonfiction writing from Columbia University\, New York\, and has translated graphic novels by Mikael Ross\, Ulli Lust\, and Katja Klengel\, as well as a novel by Svenja Leiber. She lives in Maine with her husband and two children. \n  \nAbout the moderator: \nEric Reynolds is the vice president and associate publisher of Seattle’s Fantagraphics Books. As a cartoonist\, critic\, and editor\, his writing and drawing has appeared in The Stranger\, The New York Times\, Juxtapoz\, and other publications. He has edited hundreds of books for Fantagraphics\, by authors such as Daniel Clowes\, Ellen Forney\, Joe Sacco\, Robert Crumb\, Emil Ferris\, Robert Pollard\, Peter Bagge\, Jack Black\, Crockett Johnson\, Walt Kelly\, and many others. His acquisitions for Fantagraphics have appeared on New York Times bestseller lists\, earned multiple Harvey\, Eisner\, and Ignatz comics awards\, Society of Illustrators medals\, the Lynd Ward Graphic Novel Prize\, and the Los Angeles Times book prize. Others\, like I Am Not Okay With This and The End of the Fucking World\, have been adapted into hit television series. In 2000\, he was immortalized as a character on The Simpsons.

SUMMARY:Virtual: Jim Woodring (One Beautiful Spring Day) in conversation with Gary Groth at Powell's Books
DESCRIPTION:Jim Woodring has been chronicling the adventures of his cartoon everyman\, Frank\, for almost 30 years. These stories are a singular rarity in the comics form — both bone-chillingly physical in their depictions of Frank’s travails and profoundly metaphysical at the same time. Not since George Herriman’s Krazy Kat has the comics language been so exquisitely distilled into pure\, revelatory aesthetic expression. One Beautiful Spring Day combines three previously published volumes — Congress of the Animals\, where Frank embarked upon a life-changing voyage of discovery; Fran\, where he learned\, then forgot\, that things are not always what they seem; and Poochytown\, in which Frank demonstrated his dizzying capacity for both nobility and ignominy — along with 100 dazzling new pages conceived and drawn by Woodring. The result is a seamless graphic narrative that forges a new and even more poignantly realized single story that takes readers deep into the hidden meanings of the previous stories and offers the most full\, complete\, astonishing exposition of Frank and his supercharged world to date. Frank’s curiosity and risk-taking mixed with a dose of\, let’s face it\, wanton recklessness\, takes him on a series of terrifying peregrinations that often leave his soul and body shattered\, and the reader in a state of creative exaltation. Suffice to say that if you are a friend to Frank\, you will find One Beautiful Spring Day to be a thousand-course feast of agonizing bliss\, soul-stirring mystery\, and luminous depth. Woodring will be joined in conversation by Gary Groth\, co-founder of The Comics Journal and Fantagraphics. \n  \nThis virtual event is free to attend\, just be sure to register ahead of time (link). \n  \nBonus: if you order your copy of the standard edition of One Beautiful Spring Day from Powell’s\, you’ll get it before anyone else–they’re getting copies ahead of release day for the event! SUMMARY:New York NY: Liniers (Macanudo: Welcome to Elsewhere) + Françoise Mouly (The New Yorker) Book Launch at the Strand
DESCRIPTION:Don’t miss the book launch for the highly-anticipated collection of Liniers’ comics! Liniers (Ricardo Siri) will be joined in conversation by Françoise Mouly\, art editor at The New Yorker and the publisher of TOON Books\, to discuss Macanudo: Welcome to Elsewhere. This event is co-presented by the Society of Illustrators at the Strand in New York–get your tickets here! \nAbout the book: \nFantagraphics is proud to present Argentine cartoonist Liniers’ internationally-acclaimed newspaper comic strip in a new English-language collection.\nIn the spirit of Calvin & Hobbes\, Mutts\, and Krazy Kat\, Liniers (Ricardo Siri) uses a shifting cast of children\, talking animals\, imaginary monsters\, sensitive robots\, occasional elves\, and anthropomorphized objects to perform gags\, philosophize\, muse on nature\, and engage in surreal\, artistic flights of fancy. With delicate\, calligraphic pen work and understated watercolors\, the comic skips lightly from style to style and subject to subject\, as Liniers allows his imagination and observational humor free reign. Jokes about domestic life\, imagined scenarios of historical figures\, Cthulu showing up to Tinder dates\, characters simply enjoying a pastoral sunset\, the puncturing of pop-culture stalwarts: Macanudo is a boundless canvas for its author’s humane and delightfully off-kilter view of the world\, in a way few comic strips have ever even attempted. \nBeginning in 2002 in Buenos Aires\, Macanudo steadily gained popularity around the world\, appearing in US newspapers since 2018. Welcome to Elsewhere is the first of a series of volumes collecting Liniers’ groundbreaking strip. \n

SUMMARY:Los Angeles\, CA: Jordan Crane (Keeping Two) Book Signing at Skylight Books Arts Annex
DESCRIPTION:Jordan Crane will be signing copies of his bestselling new book (twenty years in the making!)\, Keeping Two\, at the Skylight Books Arts Annex–don’t miss it! \nAbout the book: \nA young couple is stuck in traffic\, reading a book aloud to each other to pass the time. The relationship is already strained\, but between the encroaching road rage\, and a novel that hits way too close to home\, tensions are running especially high by the time they arrive back at their apartment. When one of them leaves to get takeout and a movie\, each of the young lovers is individually forced to confront loss\, grief\, fear\, and insecurities in unexpected and shocking ways. \nCrane’s formal use of the comics medium — threading several timelines and the interior and exterior lives of its protagonists together to create an increasing\, almost Hitchcockian sense of dread and paranoia — is masterful. But as the title hints\, there are dualities at its core that make it one of the most exciting works of graphic literary fiction in recent memory\, a brilliant adult drama that showcases a deep empathy and compassion for its characters as well as a visually arresting showcase of Crane’s considerable talents. Keeping Two is ostensibly a story about loss\, but by the end\, it just might also be about finding something along the way — something that had seemed irredeemable up to that point. In that way\, it’s also a deeply romantic book. \nCartoonist Jordan Crane has been one of the most quietly influential comics-makers of the past quarter-century – in multiple senses of the word: as a cartoonist\, a designer\, an editor\, a publisher\, a printmaker\, an advocate\, an archivist\, and more. But Keeping Two is his biggest project in close to two decades and will be one of the most anticipated graphic novels of 2022.
