Comix Revolution welcomes Evanston resident Emil Ferris as she signs copies of My Favorite Thing Is Monsters, her bestselling debut graphic novel set in 1960s Chicago that became an instant publishing sensation when released this winter. Called “a dazzling tour-de-force” by NPR while being hailed by The New Yorker for pyrotechnic drawings that “are already placing her among the greatest practitioners of the form,” the book is the first installment of a projected two-volume set. Drew Friedman’s two recent books Heroes of the Comics and More Heroes of the Comics, published by Fantagraphics books, depicted the great early comic book creators who entered into the dawn of the business between 1935–1955, a milestone in the early history of comic books. Join visual artist Jim Blanchard for an art show opening and book signing at Floating World Comics in Portland! Featured works on display are found in his latest book, Visual Abuse, a collection work starting with ephemera from Blanchard's influential art during the Seattle grunge era, to hyper-psychedelic and complex fine art pieces.
