SUMMARY:Corte Madera\, CA: Monte Schulz (Undercity) Book Event at Book Passage & Cafe
DESCRIPTION:Join us at Book Passage for an author event celebrating Monte Schulz and his new book\, Undercity: A Novel! A warning on the consequences of inattention and apathy. \nIn an uncannily prescient novel eerily relevant to our contemporary political moment\, Undercity unfolds across 16 interconnected vignettes\, as author Monte Schulz charts the lives of two dozen characters desperately trying to survive and retain their humanity in a civil order that has tumbled into totalitarianism. \nABOUT THIS EVENT \nThis event will be hosted by Book Passage at our Corte Madera store.\nFree Admission/ Open Seating\nFollowing the presentation\, there will be a signing line or a meet-and-greet.\nIf you are unable to attend the event\, you can still get your copy by clicking the “BUY THE BOOK” link here. If you would like a signed or personalized book\, please note that in the order comment field.\nFor any questions regarding our events\, please contact us at books@bookpassage.com. \n“My name is Marco Grenelle\, and I’m probably insane. It troubles me\, though I’ve learned to adapt. I’m here to tell you my story. It’s a fine tale\, I promise. So\, listen closely.” \nOnce there was a republic of boundless wonder and achievement whose bright horizon had gone dark\, soiled by a populace it imagined as undisciplined\, unhealthy\, feebleminded\, and whose very existence stained and subverted a great society. A solution appeared in the furious logic of Biological Dominion that named the ineffectual and weak\, the criminally deformed and unwell\, as the root cause of this decline. Now\, imagine laws conceived in the high halls of government to rid this society of millions deemed infected by a curious disease supposedly responsible for that poverty of health and morality. Next\, imagine those millions considered to be unfit and unworthy for daily life\, loaded onto freight trains and ushered away to perish in distant woods and fields. Imagine thousands more chased into the vast underground of labyrinthine caves and dark catacombs beneath vibrant city streets and lovely city parks to wither away and die. \nUndercity collects the voices of brave survivors\, of those who’ve refused to submit to the indignities of eugenical persecution\, the horror of gas chambers\, and relentless warfare in rural provinces. Some of these stories demonstrate the moral disaster of eugenics\, while others tell of courage and love and that indomitable magic of the human spirit that refuses to be silenced in the face of unspeakable crimes. Perhaps Undercity is a warning to us\, as well\, that what we might think is unimaginable needs only apathy and inattention to arise. \nMonte Schulz received his M.A. in American Studies from University of California\, Santa Barbara. He published his first novel\, Down by the River\, in 1990\, and spent the next twelve years writing a novel about the Jazz Age\, Crossing Eden. Monte is also a composer\, songwriter and producer whose most recent album is titled “Seraphonium.” In 2010\, he became the owner of the Santa Barbara Writers Conference. Monte is endlessly curious and well versed in world history and theology. He is fascinated by the style and use of innovative language\, and can be caught engaging in provocative\, philosophical conversations about big\, far-reaching\, imaginative\, ideas and worldly perspectives. His father is the late cartoonist Charles M. Schulz. He lives in Santa Barbara\, CA.

SUMMARY:New York\, NY: Fantagraphics at Table 52 at MoCCA
DESCRIPTION:Fantagraphics is going to MoCCA on March 28th-29th! Visit us at Table 52 at the Metropolitan Pavilion for artist signings\, new books (including some that aren’t out yet!)\, and merch! You can find the schedule of panels and signings below: \n\n\n\nFantagraphics Table 52 Signing Schedule:\n\n\n\nSaturday\, March 28th: \n1:00-2:00 pm: Walker Tate (Laser Eye Surgery) + Mia Wolff (Bread & Wine: An Erotic Tale of New York) \n2:00-3:00 pm: Kim Deitch (How I Make Comics) + Anna Haifisch (Ready America) \n3:00-4:00 pm: Stan Mack (Stan Mack’s Real Life Funnies) + Max Huffman (Dogtangle) + + Julia Gfrörer (World Within the World) \n\n\n\nSunday\, March 29th: \n1:00-2:00 pm: Kim Deitch (How I Make Comics) + Walker Tate (Laser Eye Surgery) \n2:00-3:00 pm: Mia Wolff (Bread & Wine: An Erotic Tale of New York) + Stan Mack (Stan Mack’s Real Life Funnies) \n3:00-4:00 pm: Max Huffman (Dogtangle) \n4:00-5:00 pm: Anna Haifisch (Ready America) + + Julia Gfrörer (World Within the World) \n\n\n\n\n\nProgramming Schedule:\n\n\n\nSaturday\, March 28th:  \n\n\n\nKim Deitch: How I Make Comics\, 1:30-2:00 pm\, Space One: Legendary artist Kim Deitch is one of the founding members of the underground comix generation\, starting his career in the mid-1960s at the East Village Other. In the years since he has authored an entire library of brilliant\, complex graphic novels that reliably offer readers a visionary tour through the border lands between art and insanity\, filled with love for the cherished moments and cultural artifacts that redeem our struggling human race. He will discuss his latest graphic novel\, How I Make Comics\, in an in-depth conversation with moderator Bill Kartalopoulos \n\n\n\nCOPRA: Post-Mortem\, 3:00-4:00 pm\, Space Two: In 2012 Cuban-American artist Michel Fiffe began a singular creative journey with his self-published comic book series COPRA. Blending influences from second-tier superhero team books (Suicide Squad) and independent comics (Love and Rockets)\, Fiffe brought an auteurist approach to the 24-page\, full-color comic book while navigating the machinery of the direct market system. This past year\, with the releases of The Death of COPRA and COPRA #50\, Fiffe has realized his vision and steered his series to its conclusion. He will reflect on thirteen years of COPRA in conversation with Tucker Stone (Fantagraphics Books). \n\n\n\nSunday\, March 29th: The Comics Journal at 50\, 1:30-2:30 pm\, Space Two: In 1976\, Gary Groth and co-founder Michael Catron bought a failing advertising-driven tabloid called the Nostalgia Journal. Within months they reinvented it as The Comics Journal\, a new magazine of comics news and criticism and the cornerstone of what would become Fantagraphics Books. The Journal distinguished itself with no-holds-barred criticism and fearless\, muckraking industry journalism. New York Times comics critic Sam Thielman will lead a conversation about the magazine’s past and present\, with Groth and current Comics Journal editors Austin English\, Sally Madden\, and Chris Mautner. \n\n\n\nAnna Haifisch: The Artist is Present\, 3:00-4:00 pm\, Space One: German artist Anna Haifisch’s comics synthesize the fragility of Charles Schulz’s line with the introspection of alternative comics to depict and satirize the intimate melodramas that constitute the creative life. Her own artwork is infused with saturated colors informed by her background as a printmaker and is peppered with art historical references ranging from Japanese ukiyo-e to Western conceptualism. America is a frequent subject in her work as well\, a subject she treats with fondness and amusement. She will discuss her work in this special spotlight conversation with arts writer and former BOMB comics editor Chantal McStay. \n\n\n\nModern Horror\, 3:00-4:00 pm\, Space Two: The mundane horrors of everyday life are often amplified to otherworldly levels in literature\, film\, and comics; the monsters that we treat as “other” are often revealed to be our own dark reflections. At a moment of historical turmoil\, horror becomes a way to process contemporary anxieties. Indie film offers a personalized\, auteurist approach to horror\, as do comics\, like the popular and influential works of Charles Burns and Junji Ito. Comics Journal editor Sally Madden will discuss contemporary takes on horror with Julia Gfrörer (World Within the World)\, Gigi Murakami (Resenter\, RazorBlades)\, and Yu-Tung Yeh (A.I. Meets Ghos

SUMMARY:London\, England: Roman Muradov (All the Living) Book Launch at Gosh! Comics
DESCRIPTION:We’re excited to announce a special launch party with Roman Muradov for the release of his brand new comic\, All the Living! Join us on Thursday 26th February 2026\, from 7-9pm. \nAll the Living is a melancholic ghost story and one we can’t wait for. Roman Muradov\, whose self-published work is always a treat here on our shelves has his unique art style on full display with this new entry. We turn 40 this year and publisher Fantagraphics are sharing a significant birthday with us in 2026 as they celebrate 50 years of publishing. We’re happy to be celebrating together this year with some fantastic events and special releases! Here’s what they say about the book: \nA captivating mediation on existence by acclaimed artist and graphic novelist Roman Muradov. \nWaking up in Purgatory\, a young woman is forced to take part in a lottery\, which she wins. Unfortunately for her\, since she has had enough of life\, the prize is to return to the world of the living and continue her life from where she had left it\, with one significant difference: this time\, she can see and communicate with ghosts—her own included. Her dull\, monotonous life carries on\, though her profound solitude is now mitigated by the presence of the ghosts of the dead\, most notably her own. She discovers that living with her ghost has its advantages\, until this relationship suddenly turns into a spectral triangle… \nBy turns compassionate and cruel\, All the Living is a quiet\, melancholy story full of delicate details\, and unexpected humor. It’s a slow and subtle meditation on loneliness\, rendered in Muradov’s shifting style\, full of finesse and sensuality. A parable — at the same time gentle\, penetrating\, and occasionally profane — that marks the return of a master of the modern graphic novel.

SUMMARY:Long Beach\, CA: Robert Williams: Fearless Depictions Opening Reception at the Long Beach Museum of Art
DESCRIPTION:Robert Williams: Fearless Depictions opens at the Long Beach Museum of Art on February 6\nand runs through late May 2026\, showcasing a survey of the painter’s iconic art from 2001 to the present\,\nincluding nearly 60 oil paintings\, several large-scale sculptures\, multimedia works\, and first edition issues (#0-\n15) of the underground\, satirical comic series Zap Comix. A giclee of the Zap No. 5 cover\, illustrated by Williams\,\nis featured in “The Visual Adventures” (1970). It blends sci-fi\, clown\, classic\, and semi-profane imagery and\nwarns in the top-right corner\, “Adults Only!” \nRobert Williams (aka “Mr. Bitchin’”) is a cartoonist at heart. His work bursts with color and chaos\, fusing comics\,\ncarnivals\, surreal fantasy\, and moral satire into highly detailed compositions. Beyond his own work\, he gave\nback to like-minded artists by founding Juxtapoz Art and Culture Magazine in 1994\, which became a cultural\nforce\, shaping the future of alternative art. Thanks to Juxtapoz\, today’s generation of “outsider” artists can\nexhibit in galleries and survive without feeling the loneliness Williams experienced in his earlier career.\nWilliams was born in Albuquerque\, New Mexico\, in 1943. He was instilled with a love of car culture at an early\nage. His father owned The Parkmore\, a drive-in restaurant frequented by hot rodders. Williams received his first\ncar at twelve years old as a gift from his father: a 1934 Ford five-window coupe. References to his childhood\nenvironment appear throughout Williams’ work\, where he fused car culture with underground comics. \nWilliams’s irreverent lifestyle and art stem directly from the Southern California environment he encountered\nafter moving to Los Angeles in 1963. He credits hot rods\, outlaw bikers\, psychedelic posters\, the porn industry\,\nunderground comics\, and tattoo culture as influences. After art school\, Williams resisted the limiting label of\n“illustrator.” He continued on his own path\, eventually landing his dream job in 1965 as studio art director for\nKustom Kulture legend Ed ‘Big Daddy’ Roth\, producing advertising and images for the SoCal hot rod crowd.\nDuring this period\, Williams was also a prolific oil painter\, producing his iconic “Super Cartoon” paintings\,\nincluding Appetite for Destruction and In the Land of Retinal Delights. These works blended old-master\ntechniques with wild\, psychedelic\, and satirical narratives\, setting a new standard for visual storytelling. \nIn 1969\, with Roth’s studio closed\, Williams joined the close-knit group of underground artists known as Zap\nComix and flourished within the era’s nonconformist\, anti-establishment art movement alongside Robert\nCrumb\, S. Clay Wilson\, Rick Griffin\, Gilbert Shelton\, and Victor Moscoso. There\, he created the character Coochy\nCooty\, his seminal underground comix antihero. His creation was unleashed in 1970 in Coochy Cooty Men’s\nComics and in many issues of Zap Comix\, and it remains alive today in Williams’s oil paintings. \nMany of Williams’s comix and “Super Cartoon” paintings were featured in his groundbreaking first book\, The\nLowbrow Art of Robert Williams\, published in 1979. The book’s title was intended as a statement against the\nhighbrow tone of the art world\, which was antithetical to Williams’s work. \nOf his paintings\, Williams has stated\, “My paintings are not designed to entertain you; they are meant to trap\nyou\, to hold you before them while you try to rationalize what elements of the picture are making you stand\nthere.”

SUMMARY:Los Angeles\, CA: Cathy Malkasian (Shadows of the Sea) in conversation with Robert Goodin (The Kurdles Adventure Magazine) at Skylight Books
DESCRIPTION:A tech-free event! At the request of the author\, we are asking attendees to silence their phones and not take pictures\, videos or recordings at this event. \nRSVP here! \nTold through powerful allegory\, Shadows of the Sea is a story about grief and the winding path to healing\, with help from friends\, loved ones\, and a little magic. \nOn the lonely road meet two outcasts — Doris\, a small but spitfire woman and Stanwick\, a shy and sensitive dog. Each of this unlikely pair harbors grief\, and must decide whether to stay with the pain or run from it. On their journey\, the two travel through lush forests\, to the eerily abandoned town of echoes\, clear to the “mudder” sea\, where they finally confront the unbearable trauma of their pasts. \nCartoonist Cathy Malkasian’s graphic novels are known to be crafted with layered\, affecting allegory and metaphor\, and Shadows of the Sea is no exception. In this story\, shadows become characters themselves\, weighed down with painful truth. They cannot be released until their owners acknowledge\, reflect\, and heal. Charged by the magic of the “mudder” sea\, the shadows reveal the loss Doris and Stanwick have been carrying — a husband and a child — and sets them free at last. \nCathy Malkasian is an animation director and cartoonist. Her credits include Rugrats\, The Wild Thornberrys film (for which she received a British Academy Award nomination)\, and most recently\, over 20 episodes of Curious George for PBS since 2008. Fantagraphics has released several of her graphic novels including Percy Gloom (2007)\, Temperance (2010)\, Eartha (2017)\, and NoBody Likes You\, Greta Grump (2021). \nBy day\, Robert Goodin works in the animation industry (American Dad\, Rugrats). By night—and on lunch breaks—he’s a comics artist/illustrator whose work has appeared in McSweeney’s Quarterly Concern\, Mome\, and Project: Romantic. He lives in Los Angeles with his wife\, Georgene.

SUMMARY:Dallas\, TX: Joe Sacco (Palestine) in conversation with Arwa Mahdawi at the Hay Festival Forum
DESCRIPTION:Joe Sacco —widely regarded as a pioneer of graphic journalism— joins The Guardian columnist Arwa Mahdawi for a conversation about the politics of storytelling\, the ethics of bearing witness\, and the power of comics to confront uncomfortable truths. From Palestine to Safe Area Goražde\, he has chronicled war zones\, refugee camps\, and marginalized communities with an unflinching yet deeply human gaze. His unique blend of on-the-ground reporting and meticulous pen work has earned him comparisons to both Ryszard Kapuściński and Art Spiegelman. \nThis year sees the release of two major works from Sacco. The Once and Future Riot returns to the aftermath of the 2013 Muzaffarnagar riots in northern India\, examining the sectarian violence and political forces that continue to shape the region. In parallel\, the updated reissue of War on Gaza brings renewed urgency to his reporting on the Israeli bombardment of Gaza\, expanding the context and resonance of a conflict that remains devastatingly unresolved. Together\, these titles reaffirm his commitment to documenting injustice with depth\, empathy\, and a fierce attention to truth. \nGet your tickets here!
