Yona Harvey & Ed Piskor: Comics (in conversation)

Yona Harvey, poet and writer, will discuss current comics projects and experiences with comic illustrator Ed Piskor.

 

Yona Harvey is a writer for the Marvel Comics series World of Wakanda, a spinoff of the Black Panther series; she and Roxane Gay are the first two black women to write for Marvel.  She is the author of the poetry collection, Hemming the Water, winner of the Kate Tufts Discovery Award from Claremont Graduate University and finalist for the Hurston-Wright Award.  She is an assistant professor in the Writing Program at the University of Pittsburgh.

Ed Piskor lives and draws out of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He is a former student of the Kubert School, collaborated with Harvey Pekar, and put out the graphic novel Wizzywig. His New York Times Best-Selling series Hip Hop Family Tree, which was originally serialized on Boing Boing, has gone back to print numerous times, and won the 2015 Eisner Award for “Best Reality-Based Work.”Tickets for this event are available with the purchase of a Pittsburgh Humanities Festival Core Conversations Pass.
