Join us this Saturday, July 13 from noon to 9:00 PM for an extraordinary event. Fantagraphics Bookstore & Gallery presents SODA POP: Super Sugar Big Buzz in association with the Sub Pop Silver Jubilee celebrating 25 years of the legendary Seattle music label. Free concerts by Mudhoney, Built to Spill, J Mascis, Chad VanGaalen, Father John Misty, Tom Price Desert Classic, and many more — right outside the bookstore doors.
The SODA POP exhibition examines the seminal years of Sub Pop from 1980 to 1990 as a hand crafted zine, cassette label, and music column with an emphasis on its correlation to the alternative comix culture of that era. Art and artifacts by Charles Burns, Peter Bagge, Lynda Barry, Art Spiegelman, Daniel Clowes, Charles Peterson, and Jim Woodring, among many others.

At 1:00 PM on Saturday, a panel discussion, "Pop Goes Seattle" with label founder Bruce Pavitt, cartoonist Peter Bagge, photographer Charles Peterson, and author Danny Bland will focus on the formative period of the Sub Pop phenomenon. This informal but informative talk will be followed by a short reading at 2:00 PM by Danny Bland and Greg Dulli of Afghan Whigs from Bland's debut novel, In Case We Die, set in grunge-era Seattle. Visitors will be the first in the country with an opportunity to acquire this provocative book.

Fantagraphics Bookstore is located at 1201 S. Vale Street in Seattle's lively Georgetown arts community. Phone 206.658.0110. We encourage patrons to take public transportation and arrive early to Saturday's event. Then stay late!
